The Cayman Brac Public Library has received an incredible gift that will change how residents access books and resources. On Friday, 19th January, the Honourable Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, Premier and Minister for Finance, Education, District Administration & Lands and Cabinet Office, officially handed over a brand-new bookmobile that will bring the library’s collection directly to the people.

With this new mobile library, residents can access books and other resources regardless of their physical limitations. This is an invaluable asset to Cayman Brac, as it fosters intellectual curiosity and promotes a love of reading that will benefit the entire community.

The bookmobile is a 2023 Toyota Hiace from Vampt Motors and will play a vital role in the library’s outreach programme. It will reach schools, senior homes, individuals with limited mobility, and others who might struggle to access library services.

“We are incredibly grateful for this vital addition to our vehicular fleet,” said the Cayman Islands Public Library Services Acting Director, Mr. Kevin Goring. “We will begin with basic outreach in February but have exciting plans to expand the bookmobile’s services throughout the year.”

The bookmobile is not just a vehicle; it is a beacon of hope for Cayman Brac’s residents. It will facilitate pop-up reading stations and provide internet connectivity as a mobile hotspot for community events.
